Sedh al Masrh is developed forming
clusters of dense vegetation – oasis in the
city, calm, intimate spaces reserved
exclusively for either men or women. A
common and lively public space improves
connectivity and provides multiple
opportunities for leisure and relax.
Instead of the rigid formal division of men-park and women-park, the concept is developed alongside the idea of complementarity comprised
in Libyan culture. Clusters of dense vegetation ensure intimate spaces reserved exclusively for either women or men, whether longitudinal alleys provide meeting points and common spaces.
The in-between park is fluid and exuberant, a place for unpredictable experiences.The oasis are dense and intimate protected spaces, where the quiet atmosphere allows ritual and relaxing activities.
A strong orientation of the central area alongside the longitudinal strip organises the different activities. The network of ornamental walking paths leads to oasis of dense vegetation.
The interstitial area is a soft lawn containing patches of different materials, such as wooden platforms, gravel spots and paved surfaces. Here the density of trees is lower and vast open spaces can host temporary
crowded events.
Oasis have a dense vegetation – forests of indigenous Libyan species threaten by extinction are planted providing a major degree of privacy while at the same time mitigating the presence of main roads.
The existing vegetation is maintained on the highest lands of the forest. These patches of preserved naturality become floating hills, offering a panoramic view of the whole natural carpet.
Halls, administration buildings, auditorium, amusement parks and facilities, sport areas, open-air theater, shops, restaurants and bars.
Private services (hairdresser, barbershop, sauna and swimmingpools)
for men and women are located in separated spaces placed in the urban oasis. Moreover: halls, pools, beauty and fitness centres, childcare and play area, restaurants and bars.
