Al Nasr is becoming a central city park, a place of daily encounter for the entire city with his infinite itineraries, even for daily visitors.
Its core activity, the botanical garden, is designed as a unique natural carpet.
The concept pivots on setting the perimeter wall of the park back from the street, developing a green border towards the city: an outer park offering a new landscape to the car-driver while mitigating the impact of large roads on the park environment.
The outer park enhances the urban quality of its sorroundings, working as a landmark for the outside and as a buffer zone for the core: it's frenetic. The inner park is more quiet and intimate, providing the visitors with a clear perception of its human scale.
The circulation system is clearly oriented alongside the main axes and
a loop – bicycle path – follows the perimeter of the park. The paths are
interconnected in order to provide infinite itineraries.
The special space– the one marked with a star – is given to the garden and market of medical herbs,
in keeping with the Libyan tradition and the knowledge of using Mediterranean natives herbs in medical purposes.
The other activities guessed for the programme range from sport fields to a library, a herbarium, a restaurant and
a social meeting hall.
Water spots: aquatic gardens, fountains, swimming pool.
The existing vegetation is maintained on the highest lands of the forest. These patches of preserved naturality become floating hills, offering a panoramic view of the whole natural carpet.
A botanical garden is the core activity of the park. Based on a regular
grid of 30 x 90 mt plots, it incorporates and supports a number of different programs (sport infrastructures, community spaces...). The intensively cultivated fields of the botanical garden form a pervasive natural carpet.
The circulation system is clearly oriented alongside the main axes and
a loop – bicycle path – follows the perimeter of the park. The paths
are interconnected in order to provide infinite itineraries, even for
daily visitors.
