LAGO SECRET GARDEN

The stand for LAGO exhibition at Milano furniture fair occupies a square surface of 20 by 20 meters. One side of the square is shared with the adjacent plot. The standard height for the pavilions is fixed on 3 or 5 meters and their perimeteral walls have to be open for at least 20% of the total wall surface. On this plot, LAGO needed to accommodate a showcase of 24 products. The proposal suggests to waste 80% of the exhibition surface in order to obtain a pleasant place for the visitors to sit, relax, talk, and do business. From the outside, the pavilion is a horizontal black monolith with three entrances and three large screened windows. While the neighboring pavilions desperately try to gain visibility through their height and openness, the glossy tiling surfaces of this mute object reflect the hectic activities of the fair, leaving the interior hidden and enigmatic. Only a cloud of colorful umbrellas raising from the top suggests the totally different nature of the interior: a white artificial garden, an unexpected "exterior" surrounded by the thinniest possible courtyard house.
